STEAM Innovation Lab

NASA’s STEAM Innovation Lab is a resource center for a variety of learning environments including makerspaces and classrooms with an emphasis on space science content applications. It brings together NASA scientists, engineers and educators to explore and develop new ideas related to infusion of educational technology into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities, programs, and approaches. It also provides users a platform to share their ideas, research and results.

Inside the lab are variety of interchangeable STEAM exploration stations fitted with technologies typically found in many of today’s 21st century educational environments. By placing these stations in close proximity to each other, we encourage users to investigate how the technologies can be effectively blended together for greater impact and integration into NASA education programs and products.

3D Printing

Conceptualize, design, and create your own three dimensional objects by solidifying materials under computer control.

Coding & Electronics

Integrated circuits are the cornerstone of all modern electronics. Our 'Coding and Electronics' station allows users to play with volumetric datasets generated by NASA space missions.

Virtual Reality

The nature of Virtual Reality allows us to expand experiences beyond what we can do in the real world. Explore new virtual worlds and let your imagination soar!

Each exploration station is associated with one or more exploration idea profiles, which are provided by self-selected teams that use the technology for their projects or programs. Users may pick one or more stations to explore, read the profiles and investigate how new and existing technologies can be effectively blended together for a greater impact in STEAM education.

Beyond replicating activities in the project profiles, users are encouraged to create new ideas that utilize existing and emerging technologies with NASA content to address the needs of their audience communities. New innovations will warrant new exploration idea profiles.
